The Stereotypes of Artificial Intelligence
The Stereotypes of Artificial Intelligence
By Miah Bryan
My work portrays and depicts imagery that shapes self-perception through social media and beauty standards. In my own time, my work offers a creative imagery and post-editing to manipulate and question what is real, fake and altered, focusing on my own experiences and visual curiosity. In this project, I explored how AI is increasingly used on social media and how it can express already existing stereotypes, often without people noticing. Using self-portraits alongside images of a male model, I applied subtle AI edits to examine how features are altered differently across genders. This work is personal, unique and subjective, reflecting on how edited images shape self-perception and identity. By focusing on small, almost unnoticeable changes, I highlight how easily these standards are normalised online. Presented as multiple small prints, it encourages close viewing and invites you to question what is real. So, which prompts match each image?
